There is an outbreak that is spreading across the globe along with the spread of the pandemic Coronavirus or COVID 19. This outbreak is the false information that is circulating via WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and believe it or not some news channels as well.

Every nation’s top news is about coronavirus, we see it on every news channel, every social media platform and it has also taken over our conversations, everywhere there is something or the other that is being discussed or shared about this Pandemic. The new coronavirus or COVID 19 has made the world stand still and confined over millions of people in their homes for weeks and months now.

Ever since the outbreak of the new coronavirus, COVID 19, we are being fed with excessive information from every source, like the local and international news and social media.

But the question arises, whether the information we are receiving is a myth or a fact.

Here we need to understand that believing these myths may not only put our lives in danger but also put everyone else’s lives around us at stake. So we must know what are these myths and what are the facts against them.The task may seem impossible to find the trail of these myths and where they might lead up to, so here we are listing some of the myths and ambushing them with the facts about the new Coronavirus or COVID 19.

 

MYTH : 1

THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID19 ONLY AFFECTS OLD PEOPLE

FACT 

YOU CAN GET THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID19 EVEN IF YOU ARE YOUNG

As per the research and information available, the virus affects anyone and everyone, irrespective of age. The people who have any chronic diseases are more likely to be infected by the virus.  Infants to old age people can all be affected by the new coronavirus or COVID 19.


MYTH : 2

THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID 19 WILL NOT SURVIVE IN WARMER TEMPERATURE

FACT

The coronavirus is transmitted in every weather condition.  Warmer or humid weather does not affect the virus or kills the virus.  

 

MYTH : 3

THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID 19 IS AN AIRBORNE INFECTION  

FACT

The new coronavirus or COVID 19 is a respiratory infection. It is transmitted between people through droplets. These have to be respiratory droplets. When a person is in contact with an infected person and the infected person coughs or sneezes, the droplets can directly be responsible for the transmission or it could be through surface transfer.  

 The droplets may rest on any surface for hours and if a person touches the surface and then touched their mouth, nose or eyes, they are very likely to catch this infection by surface transmission.  

It is advised to wash your hands with soap and use of alcohol-based sanitizer or hand rub frequently and before touching your face.  

 

 MYTH : 4

THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID 19 CAN BE TRANSMITTED BY MOSQUITO BITES

FACT

The new coronavirus or COVID 19 is a respiratory infection, transmitted through droplets from an infected person to any close contact uninfected person,

There has been no study so far that proves that the new coronavirus can be transmitted by mosquito bites.

 

MYTH : 5  

THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID 19 CAN BE TRANSMITTED THROUGH PETS AND LIVESTOCK

FACT
As per the studies so far Pets and livestock or even wildlife cannot transmit the new coronavirus to humans according to CDC. 

 

MYTH : 6

YOU CANNOT BE INFECTED IF YOU ARE NOT SHOWING ANY SYMPTOMS

FACT
The symptoms take 2-14 days to show up after being infected and in some cases, there have been no symptoms at all but the person has tested positive for COVID 19.  

If you are not showing any symptoms, you still have to be careful and follow the self-isolation guidelines drawn out by WHO and the government, as you may act as a carrier for the virus and infect other people around you.  

It is mandatory for isolating yourself from everyone else for at least 14 days if you have a travel history or have been in contact with anyone who is infected by the coronavirus.

 

MYTH : 7

THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID 19 IS PREVENTABLE BY SPRAYING CHLORINE OR ALCOHOL ALL OVER YOUR BODY

FACT

Coronavirus is a respiratory infection transmitted by respiratory droplets. Spraying chlorine or alcohol on your body will not be of any help in fighting the coronavirus. The coronavirus enters your body via respiratory transmission.  


MYTH : 8

HOT SHOWER OR BATH WILL PREVENT YOU FROM GETTING INFECTED WITH THE VIRUS

The temperature of the water that you use for a bath or shower does not help you prevent the coronavirus.  

To eliminate the chances of getting infected by a coronavirus, you must wash your hands with soap or an alcohol hand rub or sanitizer frequently as to wash off the virus that may be present on the surface that you might have touched and transfer on your hand. And later you might touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands, so wash your hands frequently.  

 

MYTH : 9

THERE IS A VACCINE AVAILABLE FOR THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID 19

FACT

There is no existing vaccine for the new coronavirus or COVID 19.  

Scientists are working across the globe to find a vaccine for the new coronavirus.  

This might take more than 12-18 months, as several safety measures are needed to be considered before getting the vaccine for the people.  

 


MYTH : 10

THE NEW CORONAVIRUS OR COVID 19 CAN BE DETECTED BY THERMAL SCANNERS

FACT

The new coronavirus cannot be detected by thermal scanners. The thermal scanners may only detect a rise in body temperature.  

Fever and a rise in body temperature are one of the first symptoms to show up on people, so thermal scanners are being used to detect people who show fever. We need to understand that not everyone who may have a high body temperature may be infected.
